Hall needs £3,000 to help plug leaking roof

A VILLAGE hall needs £43,000 to bring its roof up-to-date.

Bisley Village Hall is 130 years old but its Jubilee Room, which was built in the 1970s, needs refurbishing.

The room was constructed with a flat roof that has now reached the end of its lifetime and continues to leak water.

If funding is allocated, a new pitched roof would be designed to safeguard against any further such problems and to blend in more with the rest of the building.

Additional work would also be carried out on brickwork at the top of the walls and drainpipes.

Windows and an external door would be replaced and an additional set of double doors added to provide a shelter for visitors.

The hall is used by 15 organisations including Bisley Playgroup, a mother and toddlers’ group, a gym club and the Leanne Edwards School of Dance.

Andrew Smith, chairman of the trustees, submitted the application for £3,000. He said: “It is vital that the village hall stays in good order so the hundreds of local people who use the facilities on a weekly basis can continue to do so.

“The damage and wear to the Jubilee roof, windows, doors and walls is threatening the continued use of the room and, therefore, the activities of a number of groups.”
