Good turn-out for society display

Mary Thomas and Malcolm West proved they had the winning combination in the society’s spring exhibition.

A HOST of colourful artwork attracted plenty of visitors to a society’s exhibition of watercolours, oils and glass painting.

Art lovers flocked to the Woking Society of Arts display, which was presented at the Trinity Methodist Church in Brewery Road, Horsell. About 200 paintings were on show, as well as a series of sculptures and glass paintings.

Rosalind O’Connor, the society’s publicity officer, said: “The exhibition went quite well and sales of paintings were up on last year’s figures.”

Ian Macfarlane, chairman of the society, agreed, saying: “It was definitely as good as it was last year, if not better.

“The exhibition was quite well-attended and there was a constant stream of people coming through Trinity Methodist’s doors.”

Malcolm West was the winner of the Millennium Trophy with a statue entitled Pschye and Mary Thomas won the spring competition with a watercolour aptly named A Day in the Country.

The raffle raised £415 for Woking Hospice and one lucky winner took home a painting by Christine Taherian, who had donated her artwork for the society event.
