A SECONDARY school has been named among the country’s most improved.

Bishop David Brown School (BDB) in Sheerwater had cause for celebration after it was identified   by the Specialist School and Academies Trust (SSAT) as one of the top 518 schools for boosting students’ GCSE achievements.

And as a reward for the achievement, BDB staff attended a celebratory dinner in London last month.

It is the seventh year the SSAT has published its study and the first time it has included data from English and maths GCSEs in the results.

Headteacher Stuart Shephard said: “Even though the raw GCSE results do not give the whole picture of how a school is performing, BDB has now increased the contextual value added for each student to place it among one of the most improved schools in the country.  I would like to thank all the staff for the support they give the students in preparing them for their future lives.”

SSAT chief executive Elizabeth Reid said: “I would like to congratulate these schools for their outstanding achievement.

“It is important that we recognise success in the education system as it is the product of hard work, good leadership and innovative approaches to teaching and learning. But most of all because it means more young people are succeeding and realising their potential.”
