Neil Smith: Not applied CONTRARY to some suggestions, Neil Smith has not applied for the vacant Woking manager’s job and he will remain as Grays Athletic’s coach next season. The former Cards’ skipper admitted to News and Mail Sport it was a tough decision not to apply, but loyalty to Grays’ owner Mick Woodward was key. “Basically, I went for the Woking job a year ago when I thought I had a great chance of getting it. That never materialised. “As much as I love Woking, I didn’t feel I could apply when someone has given a chance, like Mick has done. “You don’t get by these days just on being loyal but I felt I owed it to him and I am happy at Grays. So I haven’t applied and that’s the end of it. If the opportunity had come around a couple of months ago when I was out of a job, I may have gone for it. “Playing at Kingfield in the recent centenary game made me realise how much I still love the place.” * Woking FC are to lose the services of press officer and head of communications, Sadie Gordon, whose job has been made redundant.
